Atiku,Supreme Court, Utomi
This race is only getting more intersting. I am sure you all have heard and read the news by now of the Supreme court's judgment that Vice President Atiku Abubakar can run in the presidential election. Here is an article in the Washington Post. Wow!! I am surprised by this outcome and it seems to be applauded by everyone. I wish it was a different person entirely though so that votes can swing but the VP is no saint so his presence in the race now doesn't really make a difference.
Meanwhile the one candidate that I had hope in, Pat Utomi(even though we all know he doesn't have a chance) has dropped outof the race. See full article.
Speaking of presidential candidates, I was supposed to be in Katsina today interviewing Yar'adua but trust Nigerian politicians, their PA's and the press officers to dribble and change and cancel. Anyways I am sure that all my calling and bugging will irritate someone soon and things will happen. I can't wait for elections t be over so that I can do other things.
VA TECH SHOOTING
For those of you in Yanks watching the coverage n the shootings at VA tech, what is the deal. It's such a sad incident that was just so unneccessary. Unfortunately for us in Nigeria this will cause a lot of distraction from the elections in Nigeria. We really need the eyeballs of the world on this election and transition. Orwhat do you guys think?

I beg to differ on your assertion that Atiku's inclusion as a candidate for this saturday's presidential election won't make any difference.
Suffice it to say that he's not a saint as you mentioned but his respect for the rule of LAW has endeared him to many people, including my humble self.
Moreover, Atiku has the clout, money,contacts, follwership and A LOT OF SYMPATHISERS to cause a lot of havoc.
In addition, i would like to remind you that Atiku has all it takes to cause a major disturbance in the system but chose not to but rather decided to use teh courts to fight his cases and Thank God, he has now been vindicated.
Personally, i would prefer Atiku to become the next president cos he has shown at least he believes in the judiciary, unlike Obj and his ward, Yaradua that may impose Shariah law on us...Tufiakwa!!!
Adaure, it's good you're now back and actively blogging. It's sad to hear of Utomi's withdrawal. Now the only enlightened (Modern minded) candidate left in the race is Chris Okotie.
About Atiku, he might win and he might not. Obasanjo's strategy with the public holidays was to make sure Atiku's fate was undecided before the Governorship Elections and thus make it all the more easy to rig the gubernatorials. I think it'll end up being a battle btw Yaradua/Obasanjo and Atiku. There'll definitely be rigging. That I'm sure of.

Funny i just blogged about the VA shooting.....the motive as of now is still unknown....the assailant's identity is yet to be released to the media but what we do know for a fact is 33 people are dead including the gunman.....its really insane

Anywayz, about the election update, i couldn't care less if Atiku is eligible to run or not.....as far as i am concerned he is a thief. Just like the rest of them. Okay, maybe i should pause while i'm ahead since my Uncle is also a politician and one of the lucky thieves that won this race....and yes i called him a bloody thief....i don't recollect him doing jack for the state he has governed for the last 4yrs and can't beleive those idiots put him back in office.

don't agree that atiku's presence in the race won't make a difference. there wouldn't be such brouhaha surrounding his situation otherwise. however, i find it disgusting that he has so many supporters, based on empty shells of propriety. this is the same man that was quoted saying he "couldn't guarantee peaceful elections" if he didn't get to run. this is the thug that nigerians want to be president? more power to them. i choose intelligence over brawn, and Atiku's ploy is to thinly disguise his ruthlessness - not buying it.
as per the VA shootings, that ish is deep! south korean looking for his ex-babe and her new lover goes on a rampage and shoots 32 people, armed with two handguns and loads of ammo. started at a dorm, killed two people, moved to the classrooms two hours later. i think (unaffected) people are more in shock that it's an asian than anything else...i know i am! i'm wondering what this will do to handgun laws...G and i hypothesize that, if the Dems win, they'll turn the law on its head and make handguns illegal. THAT could be interesting.
Hey Adaure, a radio station just announced that Pat Utomi's party has denied his dropping out of the race. Have you heard any news?

Update: shooter's name is Cho Seung-Hui...some depressed South-Korean kid.....reports claim he was depressed and was on medication...don't know if that had anything to do with it
I wonder why the common man should pay any mind to who wins the presidential election. Are they not all thieves? Let them out rig themselves, after all, it is honor among thieves.
Atiku's clearance will dilute an already weak opposition to PDP. In any sane society, that man will be behind bars. I have no pity for him.
One is almost tempted to commend OBJ for standing in the way of the likes of Atiku, IBB, Gusau, and Buhari. Do we desire any of them? I do not believe there is any other Nigerian alive today beside OBJ that can accomplish that feat. For once, someone has come forward to sacrifice his friends for what I consider a thankless venture. Instead of discussing that, we are talking of the prospect of a certified thief. Haba naija people? Hatred for Baba Otta should not derogate from this accomplishment. And, the man wants an educated man to run Nigeria, this time around. Isn't that something? We should not lose sight of the message just because we hate the messenger.
Yes after I left work yesterday I did hear that Pat Utomi is denying stepping down. When I say Atiku being in the race doesn't make a difference I mean that in the sense that HE IS A CROOK and that doesn't give the voters much of a choice. Yar'Adua and Goodluck would have been better candidates in this race if they belonged to a different party but considering everything that's involved CHRIS OKOTIE AND UTOMI are the best BUT DO THEY STAND A CHANCE?
Meanwhile I might just give up on the whole Yar'Adua thing because the press guy is just dribbling me. I know itwill be harder to get it when he becomes president (ya'll know he will right? let's not pretend) But maybe I'llbe lucky then, who knows.
Pat Utomi had a choice and elected to educate the elites, but Yar'Adua, in spite of his privileged background, chose to teach the lowly at the polytechnic. By their fruits, thou shall know them. Is Utomi not the one now fellowshiping with the thieves and looters of public treasury? What does that say for his principles? Or have we forgotten Utomi's preference for foreign educated MBA's over those educated in Nigeria?
As for Okotie, it is such a big joke. What does he have to point to in the area of public service? ZERO. let us get serious here. Nigeria is a country and not a transitient enterprise that will go away soon.
In any case, neither Utomi nor Okotie has the political machinery to rule Nigeria.
