ME I GO YARN PART II

2007 ELECTIONS: Heads Have Begun to Roll

Nigerian politics will never change even with this democracy. It will always be dirty. First it was Funsho WIlliams a Lagos politician and gubernatorial candidate under the PDP umbrella. Williams was assasinated in his home, strangle and stabbed. His assailants stil at large but you and I and the average OluwaChukwuemekaHassan know it is some fellow politician who ordered the attack. Now I read that another politician also from PDP in the Ekiti area by the name Ayo Daramola has also been killed. Yet another 'Cold Case' added to the list of several because we still don't have the killers of Dele Giwa, Kudirat Abiola, Bola Ige, Maman Vasta etc etc and the list goes on in custody. This neww fresh murder comes barely 3 weeks after the Funsho William saga. Unrelated perhaps, but Coincindence...I THINK NOT.
It is so ironic that just a few days after the news of William's assassination, I and some aquintances were having a conversation about Nigerian politics and how dirty a game it was. We were almost mocking the whole thing an din a morbid way were laughing and joking about how many people will die because of the 2007 presidential election. How many people would lose their mother or father. How many people 'we know' or 'went to shcool' with would be in mourning in the next few months. We were lso joking about how one prominent person from the primary geo-political zones (known to the lay man as tribes) will be assassinated. Now that we have 2 Yoruba dead, one from Lagos, one from Ekiti, we should either expect a reply with more and also expect one or two prominent Igbo politicians, one or two from the North and perhaps a token Edo or Calabar politician to mak eit a pot-luck of heads and eyeballs. Don't mean to trvialize the matter BUT that's the reality that should be expected with the way things are BEGINNING TO LOOK.
Why? Why? Why my people? Why do we resort to this violence all in the name of gaining power. Wasting off people just because they are in your way. I really don't know what else to say about this. And since they can find my address online, I think I should better shut up before ya'll hear that Addy was found wrapped and bound in some gutter. Please that is not my portion in Jesus name so I shall leave this talk about politics to the crooked politicians and suffa-hea journalists who just like the look of jail cells. Me I am too much of an ajebAutta to suffer like that.

Speaking of ALLEGEDLY 'crooked' politicians, I was sent this ALLEGED list of Nigerian leaders and politicians who ALLEGEDLY stole from the national cake. Some on the ALLEGED list do not surprise me and others do. But my fellow country people what do you think about this ALLEGEDLY new list ALLEGEDLY from the World Bank. Is it reliable and are there some people who should be on there but are ALLEGEDLY missing. Please if you are going to ALLEGEDLY 'koba' anybody, I advise that you ALLEGEDLY be anonymous o. We can't have some ALLEGED mafia ALLEGEDLY outing Nigeria's ALLEGED future.

im confused. these figures are not in naira?

they are in local currencies of the countries above.I'm suprised about a few.. I used to be 100% interested in going back home and going into politics but as of now...I am just frustrated with the country and I have no plans of settling there. Please I am not about to be just one of those people killed and the problems remain the same. Even if my country doesnt care about me, my family does!

I won't comment about the persons mentioned on the list but I do have a general comment. All I could think about when I saw the figures is that no wonder Nigeria is where it is today. The astronomical amounts that these people pocket in their Swiss bank accounts could have been used for the betterment of our people and our country....to improve education, and infrastructure and make the future of Nigerians better. After I graduated college I went home for a visit and was pleased to receive numerous job offers, and even the promise of more when I got my Masters. But then I thought about it, how about the kids who get their education in Nigeria...what about them? What will they do when they can't find jobs? Rob, steal, kill and destroy, of course. And as far as the females....prostitution, sugar daddy syndrome and God knows what else. I was lucky enough to be able to leave the country for my higher education but for my family members and friends who couldn't...what about them? Again, when I look at these figures these people are pocketing......it's a damn shame. Useless people!

its no wonder people think nigeria is hopeless. that country has sunken so low, and its hard to see us pulling ourselves out. look what we let them get away with. those crooked bastards. God will deal with them. it is their children i pity the most (sins of the father). those families have blood stains on their hands.

I am disheartened that T Y Danjuma is on the list but not surprised. His wife, Daisy is a good friend of my mother's so I often hear about the Villa in Spain, the house in London, the this and that.....so no surprise there really....just disappointment.

It really is sad, but cursing them wouldn't change anything.

If all of us started to say positive things regarding Nigeria
(Putting emphasizes on the good things about Nigeria and Prayed for Nigeria, I believe things would be better.)

It is sad to here about so many deaths but one thing I know is that God is on the throne. We may feel like he is not watching but he is and when he passes judgment people will tremble.

In light of all these, I will say that a lot of us are quick to claim America as our country because they have Blue Passports and Nigeria is not doing anything for them, but the truth is that the earlier we start to pray for our country and claim it proudly, the better things will become.

Really, there is no place like home!!!!!!!

I was so shocked when I heard on the news about the politician's murder. My first thots and exclamation was: 'another one?' Its a horrible situation in Nigeria where politics has been denigrated to a 'do or die' affair and any attempt by other aspirants to deny them that coveted political seat will be met with instant death. Its really digusting and a very very sad precedent which is being set.
Looking at the list released by the world bank. is it really any wonder why aspirants will kill each other to get into that seat? (not that I support this practice of murder and assanination) but Generals Babangida, Abubakar, Akhigbe and all on that list with the exception of General Abacha are still alive today. World Bank is aware of the loot siphoned by them in foreign currencies to foreign banks abroad and yet nothing has been done to them. Their loot is yielding interest for them daily. Alameysiagha I am sure did not siphone more billions than Babangida and others have succeeded in storing in foreign bank accounts and yet was humiliated in London. Why cant the same treatment be meted out to General Babangida and his various cohorts? With the amount of money allegedly siphoned to foreign banks, is it really any wonder why political seats are now a do or die affair? It really is a big shame!!!!

Is it true that Daisy Danjuma influenced Stella to go for her tummy tuck??

Na gist wey i hear o...no be me yan am!!!

about the figures....what diff does it make what currency they are in? Stolen money is stolen money.......

Only God can save us...
yes 'Us', cos we are all part of the corrupt generation. Unfortunately, the young that have grown are now part of the rotten mob.

Anonymous said...

Okay, so how many years are we going to see this list of looters? I am pretty sure 2004 had the same names. Are we just monitoring the interest???

Anonymous said...

Hmm!!!, and the one who put the list together, where be his name? Na wa oh!!! What we have to do is stop saying bad stuff about Nigeria and start professing life and prosperity into it. Our tongues are very powerful so lets use it to our advantage. Nigeria is a spectacular country waiting to explode to greatness. The people ina nd from it just have to grasp it. God sees all so those that steal will be rewarded. They may have the villa in Spain, the bling bling, the gold toilet, etc now but their own is coming...

It is sad sad sad taht Nigerians must kill themselves over politics....i guess it is due to all the money they are hoping to steal/continue stealing....The Funsho Williams and daramola killings were sad and gruesome but what really got to me was the killing of 18 year old Mani Emerhor..this just happened about a week ago...there is speculation that it is political cause his dad is running for gov of delta state....When will it stop...I pray it does...the killers and their generations to come will have their just reward soon...May their souls of those who were killed rest in peace..AMEN....

@Addy...nice write up as usual...u had me rolling with this one...lol.

The true story about Mani's murder is not being told by naija's press. It makes the whole matter more questionable. My dad also mentioned the political angle as what they all think happened. It's crazy that would kill an 18 yr old to prove a point.

Anonymous said...

Heck yeah I fear! My family is too close to several of the people killed recently to put my name up here. Might as well carry a dart board on my butt and a placard saying, "shoot here." As it is, we are begging my dad to quit politics.

On a lighter note,
abeg, addy how do u get ur hair into those corkscrew curls....the ones in ur latest pictures.

i have a wedding next weekend. wanna try me best to look aiight.

p.s: my hair is relaxed...will it still work??

the fact that heads roll during election period is not a new concept in nigeria's political community. it will happen and until something is done, there is no stopping it. it will continue 'til a couple of months after election. look, it only Aug '06, think of what will happen as we hit '07.... it just goin to get worse.

Me am afraid o. earlier this yr i remember tell my parents i was going to naija in '07 to do some clinical research that i was getting funds for. my mom shouted "over my dead body" and my dad said "NO". I was so very mad that they would not let me, but when they explained that '07 was election yr, i understood clearly, i lived in nigeria for many yrs b4 coming to the states so i know the routine very well.

so its almost like the killing have become a polical culture/tradition and it will happen. and for every 2 deaths reported on the news there is about 20 more death that won't make it to evening news...that is just the reality

...anyways one question i have about the stolen funds is this: World bank tells us that this money is stolen by this person blah blah blah, what are they doing about it eh? have they frozen the accounts so that these crooks can't touch they money eh? and do they just leave they money in the accounts for their value to depreciate or can't some international 'something' or 'somebody' find a way to use those money to settle some of our international debts or find a way to funnel it back to the country people that they money was stolen from in the first place?

sorry addy for using too much space.. lol.

Ada,
The chart you put on the your site is actually a fabricated one that has being circulating around the internet for years. You had better be careful else you might be inviting serious litigation.
There are is no actual data to prove this, so when wahala tanda, no go touch am. You should know beter abi is it not so?

Much love, just had to tell you, cos I did the same thing and my eyes see plenty yawa!!

Adaure Achumba said...

Lol..@anonymous. Which kind of yawa are you speaking off. Pray thee speaketh.
Anyways I am aware that there is a suspicious list out there hence i asked whether this was a reliable one or not.

Even CNN will say they cannot authenticate 'salicious or suspect info' but they will still report it because people need to be informed of what's going on. I just dey share wetin i see for intanet

I have made a bolder disclaimer above to clarify that this is not authentic Good looking out though.

Meanwhile I think the issue goes beyond this list or any other. The fact still remains that there are corrupt politicians, crooked leaders who stole from the people and the nations chest to enrich themselves, phat off-shore bank accounts that could pay off 'AFRICAS' debt and still have change left and only little to nothing is being done. We know the reason no one will come out and point a finger is for fear of retribution. It's ain't like we really need a list to know who and who have pocketed Nigeria and Africa's money and still do it with shameless disregard.
Anyways me I want to enjoy christmas goat so make I leave wahala true true.

Adaure Achumba said...

hmh....I guess there is a list after all. Apparently it has not yet been released according to the BBC. I guess we'll have to wait and see the out come of that
