ANTM SEASON PREMIERE

Not Much Drama

So the first show was basically an introduction to the girls. Not much going on dramatically. Well except that this Monique girl is trying a bit too hard to be the bitch in the house. I hope Tyra catches on and cuts her before she can say A in ANTM. Another theme that will be big and probably bore me is the pretty-ethnic-girl-who-does-know-she-is-beautiful. Anchal is cute but she ain't no Aisharawa Rai so they need to chill with the ogling abeg. Our twirling twins were back for a short while and I was just at that BelAge hotel this summer. Anyways I can't type too much. I have to go to bed early because have to be up at 4am to drive to LA to take care of some 'immigration' matters. Can you imagine that the devil tried to usurp the situation and it almost got cancelled. But you know, where there is a will, there is a way and God found a way to make it happen. I will have to drive back tomorrow night since I have to work on Friday. Can't take too many days off man, Christmas is coming and we have to buy ticket. Anyways as you are saying your prayers tonight, please pray for my 'immigration matter' . And no it is not a job interview for all the 'amebos' that be snooping around and trying to decode Adaure's business.
One problem however, WHERE THE HELL WILL I WATCH OPRAH TOMORROW. JOHN LEGEND WILL BE ON THE SHOW AND ADDY CANNOT MISS IT FOR THE WORLD. Anyways I will fill you in on my adventures. Oh by the way, how about Addy played Super Hero and Super nanny for a hot minute today. Can you imagine how careless some parents can be with their children. So my apartment complex is gated right and as I was coming back home from work, I saw these to kids, a 5 year old and his perhaps almost 2 year old baby brother playing at the gate and running in between as cars were passing. Turns out they were trying to go out of the gate. Anyways I drove up right on time to see them escape through the gate. The two year old running towards the main road. Omo my head shacked oh considering all the children that had been run over the past few weeks. Anyways I stopped my car and like a true Nigerian started yelling at them. "What are you doing here? Where is your mother?". The 5 year old started telling me some story and then I was like OK I'm going to open the gate so walk back into the complex. He agreed, but the baby was more interested in my car and running towards me. SO I had to get out and pick him up, meanwhile the 5 year old was standing in between the moving gates and trying to be superman and hold them from locking. This is a high powered iron gate. You should have seen the way I yelled at him. Luckily another driver was coming so he opened the gate and I went in and told the boy to hold his baby brother and wait for me to bring the car in. As in you never know who would call 911 and say they saw a black woman putting the white baby in her car in an apparent attempt at kidnapping. Please O. Anyways I drove in and told the boy to hold his brother and show me where their house is. Just as I started turning I see this woman lumbering towards and calling the kids. In my best imitation of an angry black woman with a southern accent, I yell at the lady "Ma'am, are these your children? Why would you let them out of your sight to walk into traffic? If you can't keep them safe, there are other women who gladly will?" I probably should not have said the last bit but I was so very upset. And she was so lackadaisical about getting the kid. Instead of carrying the baby off, she held his hand and was like 'c'mon, c'mon' in baby steps. Anyways she apparently was not going to open her mouth to say anything in her defense because she knew she was guilty, but the least she could have said was thank you. Trust Addy to remind her in the most curt of ways. I was like "Can you at least say thank you?" she did and I replied in sarcasm "You are welcome." Lol.. I swear man, I needed that drama. The picture that I can't get out of my head though was the cute black air force guy who opened the gate. He saw me in my most vulnerable moment...actually showing love and care to children. AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! I know I am going to pay for that slip up if he sees me again. Hopefully he's single sha but I doubt it. Those military guy can marry like it is going out of style. Anyways I am looking forward to this weekend. That's because I just got my free copies of Chimamanda Adichie's Half of A Yellow Sun and W.J Richardson's The Ghost of Emmet Till. That 'Chichi's' book looks very intimidating oh, all 434 pages of it. I am sure I can be done with it if I spend Saturday and Sunday reading. That's all for now sha, will bring you more gist later. Peace and love in the middle east (Speaking of which, did you guys see how Hugo Chavez lambasted George Bush at the UN meeting by calling him the devil and practically doing the 'stations of the cross' while at it. It is serious. What do you guys think about it and the situation with the Pope which doesn't seem to be letting up. Even one Muslim group in Nigeria has chimed in. I am surprised that some nut head in Jos has not stirred up a religious riot yet, or have I spoken too soon)

LOL...so which part was the love and which part was the care that the military guy saw? when you were shouting at them, asking them where their mother is, or when you were shouting at the boy to leave the gate? but that woman is not serious. after when they put her children on news, she will be crying and saying she only left them alone for a second. good for you, Adaure the Savior! meanwhile, good luck with all that stuff you have to do in LA today. lemme know how it goes.

I love Yaseline, abi is it Vaseline and wished she was picked for the top 13. The indian girl is plain ugly and should not have even made the top 100. The black girl is a catty bitch. There are no Africans or Nigerians this season. Sheesh!!! I loved yesterday's show cuz it was funny as hell. I and my sister were glued to my television.

P.S. Girrrl, you need to go and invest in TIVO. That will solve all your viewing dilemnas.

lol...i saw the Chavez drama! That was absolutely hilarious!
About the pope comment,i tire jo. I wrote something like that on my blog. My point is...by acting the way they do, they reinforce the idea that Islam is violent.

And NO, you not spoken too much. Someone needs to say the truth.

Chimamanda Adichie's book "...all 434 pages of it." I am sure I read an almost exact phrase on another prominent Nigerian blog talking about the book earlier. You are more original than to copy others Adaure. People will notice and they will think less of you. My two cents.

Adaure Achumba said...

@YOUR READER.... I beg your pardon. Are you SERIOUSLY accusing me of plagarism and should I even dignify that with a response? By the way which prominent Nigerian blog is that? And when did they write their statement. I would really like to know. I got the book in the mail and it is an intimidating 434 pages, that is a fact. If we have the same phrase then we must have been thinking the same thing. Sometimes there is such a thing called coincidence you know. Funny thing is that I have not even read any other blog where they have written about this book and have avoided any reviews that were not on the main website for the sole purpose of not wanting another opinion to taint my own as I am reading. Anyways your false statement/assumption has offended my intelligence and because I know it is not true I am publishing your comment.

Interesting. I was so hot and bugged by this accusation that I decided to scour the internet to find where it is claimed that I could have copied the phrase from. When I googled the exact phrase up, "all 434 pages of it" I didn't find anything else, then a few more keywords and found this http://wordsbody.blogspot.com/2006/08/half-of-yellow-sun.html

"In the room, a table was laid out with colourful, hardback copies of Half of a Yellow Sun - all 433 pages of it. Among artworks on the walls, a frame with an image identical to the boy’s face on the UK edition, stood out."

WOW...Amazed to say the least!!!

Dear Readers,

I never ever thought that I will ever find my self in such a position to defend my writing. As you all know Plagiarism is a very serious accusation. It is the one area where I have always been very mindful and leary about, as many are in this profession. I read Ms. Wood's blog (as I do a number of others) occassionally. She is no doubt a very good and skilled writer based on her blogs. I'd never read this partcular article by Ms. Wood until now that this accusation was raised. I probably would never have read it until I was finished with Ms. Adichie's book, which was due this month and I had eagerly been awaiting. As I stated earlier, I have sworn off reviews and article about the book in question until I had finished reading it. In writing my last post, after getting the review courtesy copy I alluded to how indimidating the amount of pages in the book was and stated an OBVIOUS fact in the most common, needless to say, flippant manner. Had I any minute or remote idea that Ms. Wood or any body else for that matter had done the same or used the exact phrase or metaphor about the book in question prior to my post, I would have found a different way to express the same thought. I am beyond baffled at the similarity.
Since I did not read the article or any other about the book, or googled the phrase up, there's no way I would have known that it had already be used and published in the same manner. Unfortunately, I stand here now accused of plagiarism without a way to disprove it other than with my word (or a lie detector test). What else can I possibly say again. Nothing. You are all intelligent people and will make decisions on what you want and choose to believe. I 'll leave it at that. Thank you for reading and supporting.

Sincerely
Adaure Achumba

Adaure...LOL i feel like calling first middle and last name
1. all ____ pages of it is a commobnly used phrase
2. u may need more than 4 words to be accused of plagiarism
3. dont be a silly goose
the only thing u can be accused of is pretending to read the book because u saw it on another site.

get that dirt of ur shoulder

Adaure Achumba said...

@Zza.... May be I am just being overly dramatic about it but I was offended by the insinuation. That's like being called a'copy-cata'. Anyways 'bridge under water' (the real phrase doesn't roll or flow well of my tongue). Not sure what you meant with your 4th point about 'pretending to rea dthe book'. I am lost on that idiomatic or metaphoric expression. I have not read the book yet and I never siad I did. If that was you trying to be funny, Omo my sense of humor is on vacation

Anonymous said...

abeg oh clarification

if u could be accused of plagiarizing it would have to be the entire idea of the book. The phrase is so commonly used it is completely outside the scope of plagiarism laws.

get me?
